Broken Foot

Oh McKenna Mac! The date is December 23rd. Kenna is racing to get out the door to go to the Aggie Game. She walks down the garage steps, trips on Brett's boot, twists her foot, and breaks her foot in 3 places! She comes inside freaking out, puts some ice on it, takes some ibuprofen and begs to go to the Aggie game.

Well the next day there is not really much bruising but a bump on the side of her foot. Brett told me he thought it was broken. I will admit I was in denial. We took her to CVSH to get some X-rays (because Hillary works there). The radiologist said it was broken in 3 spots. One really close to her growth plate. So they gave her a walking boot and told us to go to a Specialist. Well Christmas came and about 5 days passed until we could get into a Specialist. He saw us after hours and put her in a cast (above picture). We immediately started to stress out because she Kenna's first meet was about 3 weeks away. She had just gotten all her skills down really well and was going to have an awesome season. **Sigh***

The doctor of course said it would probably be 6-8 weeks. Well that doctor sure was surprised when a week later we showed back up at his office. McKenna was having serious pain in her foot. He took a look at her cast, asked us when it was we saw him last. We said it had been almost 7 days. His mouth dropped. He said McKenna had broken right through her cast (funny thing was she had been almost completly off it for about 2 days). He redid her whole cast and gave her VERY strict instructions to be back on her crutches, stay off it as much as possible, only walk when necessary! Anyone who knows McKenna is not surprised that she wore through it so fast.


So she moved from the first white cast, to a second blue one, on to a big boot and then a brace. She also was able to do about 3 meets. She did so good considering she couldn't work out at all when she was recovering. Her first meet she was so tired, she barely made it through her floor routine. She was huffing and puffing at the end.


So far her foot has been good. Although I will admit, whenever she hits her foot or flinchs I freak out. No more broken bones please McKenna. 3 is enough so far!
