Seize the Moment

This poem was emailed to me by my friend Kelly (I'm sure you don't remember this Kelly---but I saved it and put it in my journal.) She said "Heather you are my "seize the moment" friend. It was sent in 2000 and as I read it again it reminded me that I USED to be this way and NEED to get back to being this way!

Seize the Moment. I have a friend who lives by a three-word philosophy: Seize the moment. Just possibly, she may be the wisest woman on this planet. Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it, don't have it on their schedule, didn't know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine or seize the opportunity.

I got thinking one day about all those women on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I've tried to be a little more flexible.

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn't suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word "refrigeration" mean nothing to you?

How often has your husband been around and you both sat in silence? Who would talk to you?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said, "How about going to lunch in a half hour?" She would gasp and stammer, "I can't"
Check one:
"My hair is dirty"
"I wish I had know yesterday"
"I had a late breakfast"
"It looks like rain"
And my personal favorite: "It's Monday"

She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together.

Because Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect.

We'll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Stevie toilet-trained. We'll entertain when we replace the carpet. We'll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of "I should have," "I planned on" and "Someday, when things are settled down a bit."

When anyone calls my "seize the moment" friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes and you're ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of roller blades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips had not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It's just that I might as well apply it directly to my hips with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now...go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to...Not something on your SHOULD do list.

Doesn't that poem say it all? This week I've tried to be more like my old self and quite frankly it's kicking my bootie! We've been swimming, mini golfing, out for icee's, slip and sliding, and up the canyon for a hike and pictures. It feels good because I know my kids are going to be gone sooner than I think and I want to cherish all the time I have with them! I don't want to end up saying Oh I should have, or why didn't I..... I know there will still be regrets but for now I just want to enjoy my hubby and kids and Seize the Moment! Thanks for sending that to me Kelly all those years ago! :)

You Are Mulan!

Strong and spirited. You're no one's girly girl; actually you are very determined person with a strong sense of self. Never let go of that! The only thing that equals your sense of self is your family, but the traditions of society can always be bent to protect something or someone you love.

What to do today?

My perfect day.....
Start out by catching up on all my favorite blog sites, do a post to update my blog, check out the Bachelorette message board, maybe do some online shopping, do a little research on how to make my house more organized, play spider solataire, check my email, maybe type an invoice, or not....

Then decide to get a little something to eat and get so exhausted I just fall asleep sitting right at the counter.

After all that hard work, I decide to get up and read a book and why not take another nap.

Whoa a perfect day! Okay of course this wouldn't ever happen and I might like it for one day (or two!), but then I'd be tired of sitting still so I'd have to get a change of scenary and go to Old Navy :) Actually I just liked these pictures and needed a funny story to go with them.

State Meet June 13, 2008

McKenna had her final meet last Friday at Salt Lake Community College. She did an AWESOME job! This was for the whole State of Utah---so we saw some gymnasts she'd never competed against before. The competition was TOUGH! One girl that competed against her got 9.7 on bars----WOW that's nearly impossible!

Her scores were Vault 8.25 (8th place), Bars 9.05 (7th), Beam 8.475 (didn't place), and Floor 9.075 (6th) with an overall of 34.85 (7th place in State). It was a long meet but McKenna had tons of supporters! She was really nervous about it. We talked to the owner of the gym Julie, who was there, and she said the judging was tough! She said that McKennas floor routine was the best one she's seen her perform. I think McKenna was little bummed because she's used to getting 1st or 2nd, but we had to remind her that there were other gymnasts that we'd never seen before and also alot of those girls were competing level 5 for a second time around. We were very proud of her! Afterwards we went to dinner to celebrate.

Getting ready to vault! Gotta LOVE that smile :)

Showing off the medals

My aunt Rizzo (I mean Pam) and her husband Mike. They flew up here from Arizona for a few hours just to see McKenna's meet. How awesome is that? Don't you think my aunt looks like Rizzo (Stockard Channing) from Grease (one of my fav movies and fav aunts!) I tried to add a picture of the real Rizzo but couldn't figure it out.....but do a search of her and see if you agree! LOVE YOU RIZZO! :)

HER FANS AND BIGGEST SUPPORTERS

Dave and Maecee. Thank you for getting her to sleep Dave!

Ethan trying to get a break from watching gymnasts, Jake, Melissa (sorry can't see you guys very good, except for maybe Melissas eyelashes :)) and Kim

Mike, Pam and Mom-Bet you guys didn't know Brett snuck a few rows down to get a picture :)

Dad and Lisa (getting married June 27th)

Daddy with his girls. Comforting McKenna.
Roger and Donna were also there but I didn't get a picture of them because they had to leave early. So this is the only picture I could find of them together. I wanted to include them :) Can you find them squished in all those cute grandkids?

We are so proud of you McKenna! We're looking forward to Level 6 in the Fall and then she will be in Optionals Level 7 by December....if things go like they are now. Thanks again to all our family for their support. We couldn't do it without you!
